RECIPES FROM THE PAST: WEDNESDAY CAKE

A good middle of the week cake with lots of possibilties in the serving.

                                   WEDNESDAY CAKE

I’m not sure why this cake got to be called Wednesday cake, but perhaps it was because most cake baking occurred near the weekend. I judge this recipe to be about fifty years old. It came to me from one of my daughters. It is a good basic cake that you can do a multitude of things with…frost it, eat it plain, or with fruit topping. It is an easy recipe to follow and economical since you will probably have most of those ingredients in the house

 

  • WEDNESDAY CAKES
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 ¼ cups flour
  •  1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening   & sugar, add egg s, baking powder and flour alternately with milk.  and vanilla,.Drop by  tsp. onto cookie sheet,

Bake at 350 12 – 15 min. Ice and sprinkle with nut s or coconut.
