RECIPES FROM THE PAST: CARNIVAL CAKE

A wonderful cake for special occasions.

CARNIVAL CAKE

This cake was always reserved for very special occasions. It requires slightly more effort, but it is definitely worth it.

 

CARNIVAL CAKE

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 ¼ cup milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp. vanilla
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 oz.. choc. bits, chopped
  • 1 tsp. salt (optional)
  • 1/2 cup shortening

Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl. Blend ½ min. on low, then 3 min. on med. Pour into greased and floured pans. Bake 40 -45 min. at 350. Fill layers with Creamy Nut Filling:

  •  ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • ½ cup chopped nuts
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla

In pan mix sugar and flour. Stir in milk. Heat to boiling for 3 min. Remove and stir in butter, nuts and vanilla. Frost cake with Glossy Choc. Frosting.

CREAMY CHOCOLATE FROSTING

  • 3 Tbsp. melted butter
  • ½ cup cocoa
  • 1/3 cup milk
  •   1 ½ tsp. vanilla
  • 3 ½ cups conf. sugar
  • Salt (optional)

Combine butter and cocoa, add milk, vanilla, sugar and salt .  Beat until smooth. Add a little milk if too thick to spread .
