When apples come in to season in the fall I have several recipes that I pull out and start peeling and slicing. ‘In the old days’ I canned apple sauce, pickles, beans, beets, just about everything we had in our small garden, and peaches, and pears, that we didn’t. Apple Crisp can be enjoyed with storage apples, any time of the year, but there’s something special about using them fresh. Enjoy!
- 1 cup quick oatmeal
- ½ cup flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ cup oleo
- 4 cups peeled and sliced apples
Combine first 3 ingredients, add oleo and blend with pastry blender. Arrange apples in buttered baking dish. Spread mixture on top and press down slightly. Bake about 30 min. at 350 or until top is browned and apples are tender
Serve with milk or ice cream. Peaches can be used instead.
